X-on, a cloud telephony company founded in a Suffolk barn 20 years ago which has grown to a £10 million turnover business with 70 staff in Woodbridge, has been acquired by a Hampshire-based business-to-business provider Southern Communications Group (SCG). X-on, founded by Paul Bensley and Paul Heeren, has thrived by specialising in the healthcare sector. The acquisition will give it access to funding to accelerate an expansion from its core primary care base to providing cloud communications to wider care networks.

Paul Bensley, who continues as chief executive, said: “This is a very exciting time for our company and our acquisition by SCG is the right decision at the right time to ensure we have the crucial funding to help us realise our true trajectory within the growing digital healthcare market.” Around 11 million patients are served by 1400 practices in England and Wales using X-on’s Surgery Connect, around 17.5 per cent of the GP practice telephony market. Lake Falconer at PEM Corporate Finance acted as lead adviser to the vendors. See more details here.
