Meet Cambridge, the meetings and conferences bureau, has staged a successful series of Opendoors events, showcasing venues to local event organisers.
The bureau, funded by Cambridge colleges, has arranged six half-days, attended by 52 event organisers from 23 different organisations who were looking for suitable spaces to hold conferences, meetings and dinners. Nineteen venues from the Meet Cambridge portfolio supported the initiative – colleges, hotels and museums – opening their doors for showrounds.
Judith Sloane, head of Meet Cambridge, said: “This is the first Opendoors series since before the pandemic and we were delighted by the positive response from local event organisers. Not only did it enable new members of the teams to see at first-hand what a wide range of venues we can offer – from traditional colleges to more contemporary spaces – it also allowed them to view new facilities, meet the conference teams and network with each other.” She added: “We plan to end the 2022 programme on 7th December with an Opendoors visiting Churchill College and Downing College, but based on the success this year, we plan to organise more in 2023.”
