Southend Airport has started to recruit 60 new staff which it needs to become a fully-functioning regional airport by 2012. Appointments have been made at the new railway station and new roles available include fire service and operational and passenger service agents.
Alastair Welch, the airport’s managing director, said: “At last we are now beginning to see all the developments we have been planning starting to happen – the building of the new terminal, the new control tower, railway station and hotel - and so we now need to start recruiting. This wave of recruitment is just the beginning of the local job creation.”
By extending its runway, London Southend Airport will be able to attract airlines operating commercial passenger services to a new business and holiday destinations. It hopes passenger numbers will grow to 2 million per year by 2020.
