The recently renamed Cambridge Airport, formerly Marshall Airport Cambridge, says it has an ambitious plan to create a leading aviation hub for the east of England.
Having invested in a fixed base operator, increased hangarage capacity and a new GPS approach, the airport says it already functions as a fully fledged commercial aviation operation. It will now focus on growing its executive aviation potential and developing other niches.
Plans exist to refurbish the existing passenger terminal and grow regional airline routes via a city hopper schedule, and to develop the horse transport market, particularly between Newmarket and the Middle East.
Newly appointed airport director, Archie Garden, said: “Cambridge Airport offers a wealth of possibilities that have yet to be exploited. We have a fabulous state-of-the-art FBO with business facilities and VIP hospitality, flexible opening hours, and can accommodate a complete range of aircraft from light jets to BBJs.” Aviation training will also be expanded. The airport currently employs 60 people and it is expected to grow.
