London Stansted says the appointment of Greater Anglia as the new operator of the Stansted Express rail service between the airport and London Liverpool Street is good news for passengers. Nick Barton, Stansted’s managing director: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Greater Anglia to Stansted Airport and we look forward to working with them to offer passengers an excellent service.” Stansted is the UK’s leading major airport for public transport use by passengers, with nearly 48 per cent using train, coach or bus to get to and from the airport. In May last year a fleet of new trains began operating on the Stansted Airport service.
Ruud Haket, managing director of Greater Anglia, said: “ Customer service will be the focus for us all and we have started to progress new ticket purchase routes, an upgraded first class ticket offer including newspapers and beverages which we will launch in May.”
Greater Anglia, whose parent company Abellio Group operate public transport services across Europe, began running on Sunday, February 5, 2012. The franchise will operate for 29 months between February 2012 to mid-2014. Work has recently been completed to lengthen platforms at the airport’s railway station to allow for the operation of 12 car trains.
