The Captain’s Table, one of Woodbridge’s oldest and established restaurants has been sold for an undisclosed amount from an asking price of £100,000 on the basis of a new lease. For the past 13 years, the restaurant in Quay Street has been owned and operated by husband and wife team Jo and Pascal Pommier. It will shortly begin a new chapter when Amy Melhuish opens her new venture, The Moorish Lounge where Mezze’food and drink which will be available throughout the day 7 days a week. The restaurant was sold by business broker Simon Jackaman a specialist in restaurant sales and consultant for Penn Commercial.
New owner Amy Melhuish will shortly open after some alterations to the property and a programme of refurbishment the Moorish Lounge. Commenting on her new venture Amy said “The Moorish Lounge is not just a restaurant , bar or coffee shop. The Moorish Lounge is a place, venue to meet with friends and colleagues. The food will be in the form of delicious & nutritious ‘Mezze’ food and drink which will be available throughout the day 7 days a week. With influences from Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Morocco and Iran; those with food intolerances will be naturally catered for too.The Moorish Lounge will also be a creative place, a working exhibition space. But we don’t mean framed art on the walls, we are talking functional art. We are collaborating with talented local creative people to showcase their work in the way it should be used”.
Commenting on the sale of the Captains Table Simon Jackaman said “Despite on going concerns relating to the recession this sale demonstrates that there are still many people who are appropriately funded looking for an opportunity such as this to create their first business. Although Amy has run her own restaurant before in France and therefore is experienced in this area, nonetheless, this purchase gives her the opportunity to create her own style and will no doubt prove to be a successful venture.
It was a pleasure to have been involved with the sale of the Captains Table, with the owners looking ahead they had placed the business on the market with a national business transfer agent, who had not come up to expectations and as soon as Jo and Pascal were able to instruct an agent who specialises in the sale of restaurants then they saw significant interest. By using my own extensive knowledge in this sector I was able to come up with 3 buyers in a relatively short period of time. The sale only took 3 months from being paced on the market with me to completing, which goes to show that with the right location, motivated buyer and agent then sales can be achieved”.
